World News Update - 30th October 2012

- Hurricane Sandy hits New York in the USA and East Coast causing severe flooding and power cuts, 13 deaths so far have been reported because of the storm which was said to be the biggest storm to hit America since records began. Subways, roads, and tunnels were also damaged with an estimated 50 million people being affected by the hurricane.

- Both President Obama and Mitt Romney both have stated that new innovation is the way forward however both candidates for this years election missed out or forgot to mention how important the internet was.

- G4 gets started at last in the UK giving some mobile phone coverage and is said to be considerably faster giving better coverage and speedy downloads however consumers will have to pay a higher price and critics are saying this may not be worth the costs.

- Winterbourne still causes problems in wake after the programme that exposed the shocking treatment of patients in its care and after the facility has long been closed down it now seem that those patients that were moved from winterbourne may still be facing injury and abuse at their new homes.

- Women in the UK being tested for breast cancer are by screening are to be given more information about the results and screening process. Professor Sir Mike Richards said it has become an area of high controversy with the debate being about over diagnosis and whether surgery and treatment could have been avoided.
